Zhang + Knight – a.k.a. Linden and Hannah – are a directing duo from the UK. Best known for the pastel, dreamy worlds they create, Zhang and Knight have found each other through their passion for film and desire to create work that resonates with the female, queer, and non-white communities.

Before meeting at the age of 18, Zhang wanted to be a painter, while Knight was striving a career as opera singer. During university, they began to share a love for film, developing mind-blowing visuals and a poetic approach to storytelling.

Besides countless music videos and films, Zhang and Knight have also directedcommercial work for the likes of Mercedes, Maserati and Hawaiian Airlines.

Zhang + Knight

A long-time Shanghai resident who has recently relocated to Amsterdam, Charles Lanceplaine is a filmmaker who has made waves with his skateboarding documentaries that have captured the subcultural zeitgeist of the communities in the cities that he has called home – most recently, through the highly acclaimed work “Shanghai 6”, which empathetically depicts the challenges that the scene has faced as the city has radically transformed in recent years, as skateboarding has gone from a free-for-all to a heavily regulated practice. He has also directed commercial work for the likes of Vans, Beats and The North Face, which incorporates the backdrop of the urban metropolis as a living, breathing protagonist in its own right.

Charles Lanceplaine

Born of Chinese heritage, raised in Stuttgart, and now living in Los Angeles, Xiaolong Liu is a trilingual, multi-talented Director of Photography who has shot music videos for the likes of 21 Savage and Offset alongside frequent collaborator, director Aisultan Seitov, as well as shooting other renowned artists ranging from Travis Scott and Young Thug, to Goldlink and Wang Yi Tai.

His style is breathtakingly kinetic, drawing on technical expertise to push the boundaries of what can be achieved in the confines of a studio, while filtering everything through a lens of effortless cool and inimitable panache, with which he has also reframed the appeal of brands like Zara and Reebok through trend-defining commercial work, all of which makes Xiaolong Liu one of the most impressive DPs of his ilk.

Emmy Award-winning, Taiwanese-American director Christine Yuan is someone who brings an unmistakably unique perspective to every work that she crafts. Yuan’s background in fine art and darkroom photography is reflected in both the inventiveness of the worlds that she constructs on screen – often imbued with an ethereal, dreamy quality that incorporates mixed media and unconventional artistic flourishes – but also the meticulous detail with which she approaches everything from casting to styling. Her work with singer Lim Kim has been a key factor in transforming the South Korean artist into an avant-garde icon, and the music videos that Yuan directed for “Yellow” and “Mong” are superlative examples of how she is able to juxtapose shades of magical realism with prescient cultural commentary.

Yuan has also directed high-profile commercial work for iconic global brands such as Beats, Tiffany & Co. and Zara, including the latter’s first-ever Chinese New Year campaign video, “A Great View”.

Whether it’s a tongue-in-cheek ode to Los Angeles shot on sun-kissed 35mm, or a big-budget commercial filmed with basketball legend Kobe Bryant (RIP) that nods to the sci-fi trappings of television series Westworld, the works of Australian director Jonathon Lim all exhibit flashes of humour and approachability that are a reflection of his character behind the camera.

Fully embedded in contemporary culture and frequent collaborator with Asian hip-hop collective 88 Rising, Lim directed the seminal feature-length documentary “Asia Rising” filmed over multiple countries and, which, over the course of its hour-long run time, showcased the evolution of Asian hip-hop and how the genre has exploded across the world. It was released to huge acclaim with features in publications including Forbes and Rolling Stone, and is a testament to Lim’s ability to deftly capture the essence behind so many larger-than-life characters, as well as the ideology that drives the collective scene as a whole!

Jonathon Lim

Born in Denmark, raised by the european film industry, now based in Oslo.
Marius is a multitalented Director of Photography combining Scandinavian minimalism and elegance with the eclectic aesthetic of Europe’s melting pot of styles intuitively. Growing up working in Europe and Scandinavia has steadily shaped his taste and perspective, and made him a forwardthinking visual storyteller.

Marius Aaserud

Best known for directing highly acclaimed music videos for the likes of rappers Offset and 21 Savage, as well as 88Rising’s Joji, 23-year-old Aisultan Seitov is a prodigious talent who pairs tremendous technical flair with an ability to craft captivating narratives, rife with visual metaphors and nods to filmic history, while remaining defiantly youthful and contemporary throughout.

Referencing everything from The Godfather Part 2, to director Paweł Pawlikowski’s “Cold War”, Seitov’s music video for the Grammy Award-winning “A Lot” by 21 Savage and J. Cole is an excellent example of his ability to weave together nuanced social commentary with striking aesthetic flair and a natural appreciation for the post-social media zeitgeist that has seen the video rack up over 220 million views and spawned hundreds of GIFs, memes and thousands of comments.
