In the heart of Haymarket, the home of Chinatown in Sydney, lived a dormant building ready to be brought to life by MOCA (Museum of Chinese Australians). MOCA started as conversations and community gatherings, for the first time it is launching a home for Chinese Australian stories - past, present, future.
Chinese Australian and PUSH Founder Jonathon Lim was commissioned to tell the stories of a group of Sydneysiders to contribute to the launch of the MOCA rebrand by RGA.
"This is a very special project for me. When I came back to Australia in 2020 after nearly 10 years away — I really wanted to work on projects that connected with my Chinese-Malaysian/ Australian background. Growing up Half Asian in a country town in Victoria — being Asian was something that i never wanted to engage with. It has taken a long time for me to embrace my background and make work that speaks to that within Australia. I’m proud of my background, family and heritage. Proud to be able to showcase these amazing Asian-Australian creatives, artists and entrepreneurs.”
